2011 Chevy Camaro Reportedly Tops Mustang With 312-HP; Fuel Economy Still Unknown

Several reports on different Chevy Camaro fan forums have appeared online claiming that for 2011 the Camaro’s entry-level V6 will get a slight boost from 304-hp to 312-hp. That might not sound like much, but it’s a big deal in the horsepower wars, where Ford recently announced the new 2011 Mustang’s V6 engine makes 305-hp – just one more than the Chevy.

What isn’t yet known is the updated Camaro’s fuel economy numbers. Currently the Camaro gets 29-mpg highway, while the Mustang recently topped it with 31-mpg.

And while these numbers both sell cars, they are mostly useless as the Camaro weighs roughly 300 lbs more than the ‘Stang. You can’t feel seven horsepower, but adding all those extra pounds is a tangible difference.

A few other details about the 2011 Camaro have also leaked out, with word that the Synergy Green option will be offered on all models for a limited time. Also, for 2011 a Heads-up-display (HUD) will be standard equipment on all 2LT and 2SS models.

We’ll await official details from Chevy and report back when we do.
