Porsche has high hopes for its first every hybrid production car – the Cayenne S Hybrid – with word that the company expects as many a one-in-seven Cayennes sold to be of the green variety. Word comes from an unnamed Porsche representative, who made the comments to Auto Telegraaf in the Netherlands.
The Cayenne S Hybrid is powered by a 3.o-liter V6 engine that is supercharged and mated to a 47-hp electric motor for a total of 380-hp and 427 ft-lbs of torque. Porsche claims the Cayenne S Hybrid can travel up to 40 mph on just electric power and can cruise on pure electric power at speeds of up to 97 mph. No official fuel economy numbers have yet to be released, but the Cayenne Hybrid should deliver V6 fuel economy with V8 power. All Cayenne models should also show big improvements in fuel economy thanks to a much lighter (as much as 400 lbs in some cases) curb weight and the use of a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
Set to arrive in dealers later this year, the Cayenne S Hybrid is priced from $67,700, a $4,000 premium over the 400-hp Cayenne S.
