Pagani Zonda R Demolishes 599XX Nurburgring Time With Record 6:47 Lap

Pagani has once again proven that its cars can go as fast as they look, setting a new production-based car Nürburgring record of 6:47. This bests the recent record set by the Ferrari 599XX of 6:58. The Zonda R’s new time also bests all times posted by street-legal cars, including the fastest street-legal “production car,” the Radical SR8LM with a time of 6:48. Other top-contenders include the Gumpert Apollo with a 7:11.57, and the Dodge Viper ACR with a time of 7:22.

Like the 599XX, the Zonda R is a track-only machine weighing just 2,359 lbs and powered by a 6.0-liter AMG V12 engine that makes an incredible 750-hp and 524 ft-lbs of torque. That’s enough for a 0-60 mp time of just 2.7 seconds, using a mid-engine, rear-drive setup with a paddle-shift sequential gearbox that’s three times as fast as anything Ferrari has.

Is it street-legal, or track-only. I am confused by the article. And the comparisons being made.

As you can see, the writer had a bad day, or don’t know what he is talking about. The Zonda R is a track car like the 599XX. None of the two can be driven on streets. The Radical SR8LM is also a race car but street legal in some countries unlike the Pagani and Ferrari. The Gumper is a full street car called the Gumper Apollo Sport. Why they mention it also? No idea. The Viper ACR is a full street car also. Why they mention it? No idea. So, those notables have nothing to do with what the Pagano Zonda R and the Ferra 599XX are…
