Hyundai Planning Volkswagen CC Rival Based on IFlow Concept

Hyundai will expand its product offering in Europe with a new four-door coupe model that will rival the Volkswagen CC. According to a recent report, the vehicle will be based on the same architecture as the new 2011 Sonata (known as the i40 in Europe), but will take design inspiration from the iFlow concept that first appeared at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year. Hyundai has already used some of the design details in the iFlow concept in its new Sonata Hybrid model.

In true Hyundai fashion, the new 4-door coupe model will undercut its German rival in terms of pricing. Hyundai also wants to offer more practicality, with more rear headroom.

Engine options for the new model would likely be the same as those found in the Sonata in Europe, including a 1.7-liter diesel motor (fingers crossed for the 274-hp 2.0T).

If the project gets the go-ahead, this new model would likely debut in 2012 and if successful there’s a strong chance it could be launched in North America.
