Hyundai CEO John Krafcik confirmed to Autoblog that their next generation of Genesis, Genesis Coupe and Equus rear-drive cars would also be offered with all-wheel-drive.

While no powertrains have been announced for any of the cars, the news of AWD will be welcome for those in the Snowbelt states, where traction going to all four wheels is so prevalent that most dealers don’t even bother to order rear-drive variants of cars like the Infiniti G, and Mercedes C, E and S-Class sedans.

Autoblog also dropped a vague hint that the next Genesis Coupe will go “upmarket” next time, perhaps setting its sights on the BMW M3 rather than the current crop of pony cars. Honestly, the Genesis Coupe, while a decent car, might want to set its sights on the Ford Mustang 5.0, which seems to have the bargain-M3 formula down to a science.

    I was all set to buy a 5.0 Genesis Coupe if it was in the neighborhood of a Mustang in price. I won’t pay the price of an M3 for a Hyundai. I have owned several Hyundai’s and their most attractive feature is the excellent value they have become noted for. Granted they made some large strides in the quality of their vehicles, but they aren’t in BMW territory yet!

    I been shopping for an AWD sports coupe and was going to buy a Audi S5 around $62K or a BMW 335xi for $60K or a Nissan GT-R for $104K. Now I came upon dis article and if Hyundai can come up with a 5.0 AWD in a Genesis Coupe for $50K; I will buy it since the repair and maintenance will be much less and Hyundai has a much better warranty too. Cost of insurance is less too. But they need to fix the Coupe up with higher grade interior and nav screen – 10″ or bigger, better DCT or Auto transmission that shift like their rivals and get a more shape looking grid design maybe with hexals pattern or wire honeycomb.
