With the official reveal of the 1 Series M Coupe just over a week away, BMW is already considering more versions of the small sports car to meet demand.

Initially BMW’s plan for the 1M Coupe was to limit production to just 2,700 units, but later reports have indicated the German automaker will build as many of the high-performance models as the market will accept – especially as this version of the 1 Series is set to be retired in the not-too-distant future.

Now, thanks to a source inside BMW, we’ve learned that a cabriolet model will be offered if demand for such a car exists. Better yet, BMW is also considering a higher-performance model along the lines of the BMW M3 GTS or CLS. (Could this be the version rumored to make 451-hp?)

The source, known by rendering artist Jon Sibal (who dreamed up his own special edition 1 M Coupe to share – above), commented that, “Reaction to the Coupe will determine the Cabrio’s existence as will the GTS/CSL type car.” That being said, we have to think BMW has already given both the green light.
