Chances are that if you’ve ever heard of the Camaro Z28 you already know that it is set to launch next year as a 2012 model. Numerous spy photos of the car have been taken and rumors have slipped out, the latest being reported confirmation from two sources inside GM that the Z28 will get between 500 and 600-hp from a 6.2-liter supercharged V8.

Chevy is currently riding a wave of success with the new fifth-generation Camaro, with the muscle car set to handily out-sell Ford’s rival Mustang this year. Total Camaro sales for the year currently sit at 71,521 cars; out-pacing the Mustang by 7,350 units. And with one month left, Chevy is certain to hold on to the title.

With the recent launch of the Camaro Convertible at the LA Auto Show, Chevy looks to add significant volume to its sales in 2011 and beat the Mustang again.
