Quick, what’s the best selling car in America? Answer, the Toyota Camry. Our neighbors to the North, however, prefer the smaller and more agile Honda Civic. Or at least they used to.
With the first sales numbers for 2011 having just come in, Hyundai Canada has announced the new 2011 Elantra is the best-selling passenger car in the country. Sure, it’s 11 months too early to start talking about ‘the best selling car’, but Hyundai is off to a strong very strong start. In just one month it racked cup 2,253 sales, nearly doubling the Civic with 1,142 units moved. The Civic did have a particularly poor month, however, finishing well back of the runner-up Camry with 2,146 units.
“The compact segment is the biggest and most important in Canada, so winning the battles here is critical for any automotive company to find success,” said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Canada. “Perhaps most importantly, the Elantra rose to the top despite the fact that it had negligible marketing support last month. Our full marketing push for this vehicle doesn’t begin until this Sunday during the Super Bowl.”
