It’s no secret that Jaguar is considering building a rival for the BMW 3 Series, but now comes word that the car won’t just be limited to a sedan. And while a wagon (popular in Europe) is also likely, the more exciting news is Jag’s interest in developing a coupe model styled on the same platform.
The news comes via AutoWeek in an interview with Jag’s new global brand director, Adrian Hallmark. Delivering a more luxury oriented coupe model would help Jaguar compete directly with the Mercedes E-Class Coupe, as well as a planned C-Class Coupe.
Jaguar and Land Rover are both pursuing a new global strategy that has the two brands developing more high-volume, low cost models.
Sadly, a Jaguar sports sedan isn’t in the cards any time soon with the next model from Jaguar likely to be a new roadster, competing against the Porsche Boxster and fitting under the XK in Jag’s current lineup. A Jaguar Crossover is reportedly also under consideration.
