If Porsche‘s move to build a sedan didn’t sufficiently raise the ire of brand loyalists, a long wheelbase model focused more on being a passenger than a driver just might.
According to new report, Porsche is currently developing a long wheelbase version of the Panamera for sale in both the U.S. and China. The current 115-inch wheelbase is set to be stretched by 5-inches, making it just 4-inches short of an S-Class. The space will be used to create a larger rear door with more legroom for back-seat passengers – flying in the face of Porsche’s driver-focused ethos.
Pushing ahead with this project, Porsche has decided to put a hold on any other new versions of the Panamera (including both a four-seat convertible and a shooting brake wagon) until 2015 when a second-generation model would arrive.
