iSupercar Sounds has developed an app for various Apple iOS products featuring sound clips and high resolution wallpapers for various luxury and exotic cars out there. From Ferrari to Lexus, iSupercar Sounds has you covered if listening to supercars is your source of pleasure. Hey, we’re not judging.

Currently there’s a free version of the app up on the store, featuring 30 minutes of ad-supported sound clips. Those that have $0.99 to spend can grab the full version which comes with 30 additional sounds. iSupercar Sounds is also promising weekly updates with additional cars. Not too shabby for under a buck, save yourself a trip to McDonald’s and you can stop using that juvenile fart app. OK who are we kidding, fart sounds are still hilarious.

Mercedes-Benz is planning to debut their updated 2012 C63 AMG Estate F1 Medical Car at this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The refreshed C63 AMG Estate will be sporting the new C-Class facelift along with its AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed transmission. Additional aesthetic changes include an aluminum hood with modified powerdomes, radiator grille, headlights, redesigned front and rear apron featuring larger intake and side air vents.

The wagon is equipped with a 6.3L V8 powerplant that AMG has taken to 487-hp, giving it a 0-62 time of 4.5 seconds. AMG’s Performance Package for the C63 includes an intake manifold painted in titanium gray and AMG’s infamous braking system. This particular wagon will be sporting 19-inch AMG wheels on all four corners. To give it the true race-inspired theme as an F1 medical car, the interior has been revamped with four bucket seats with six-point harnesses and screens in the center console to monitor the race.

The SLS AMG F1 Safety Car has seen no changes, but we figured it’d be worth drooling over again.

chevy hhr ss 05

An old finance maxim states that “by the time you’ve read about it, it’s already too late”, but that hasn’t stopped used car dealers from eagerly snapping up any 4-cylinder or hybrid vehicle as gas prices continue to climb.

With one dealer calling the sudden trend a “panic”, values of previously undesirable cars like the Chevrolet HHR have shot up to $11,000 from the $8,000 or $8,500 they previously commanded.

In an interview with Automotive News, a NADA guides official stated that prices for these types of cars will probably rise between 3 and 4 percent above what the NADA guides state, while SUV and truck prices are set to fall. However, NADA is not set to alter their residual values, in part because they feel that any major spike in gas prices will last for three years, roughly the same term as most leases.

General Motors has halted production at their Tonawanda, New York engine plant, due to a parts shortage that has affected another factory in Louisiana.

The New York plant builds engines for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which are assembled at the Shreveport, Louisiana plant. While GM has acknowledged that the closure is due to an issue with Japanese parts, GM hasn’t specified what components are affected.

Of the 623 workers at the plant, 59 have been laid off due to the shortage. Some have suspected that GM is diverting the components to more profitable vehicles, as it fears an extreme disruption to its supply chain. GM plants in Spain and Germany have also been closed due to the shortage.

Lawyers for a group of plaintiffs in the Toyota unintended acceleration case are challenging a NASA report that found the automaker was not at fault for the alleged issues that led to a massive recall of Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

The plaintiffs lawyers filed papers in a California court last week stating they intend to disprove the NASA report and show that Toyota is at fault. One filing by lawyer Steve Berman stated “Toyota asks this court to take judicial notice of findings and conclusions by NASA and NHTSA that are hotly disputed in this litigation. If this court took judicial notice of the disputed findings and conclusions, plaintiffs would be barred from challenging them in this litigation.” Among the points of contention were that NASA engineers only examined 280,000 out of 8 million lines of code, and a phenomenon known as “tin whiskers”, which have been known to interfere with commercial satellites.

If the case went to trial, it would not be until 2013.

Not only does Red Bull give you wings, it also makes you feel like you’re Sebastian Vettel. How does the energy drink do that? With it’s new Playseat Red Bull-branded racing simulator.

In order to replicate the feel of a Formula One car, the Playseat is almost like driving Red Bull’s new RB7 – except, of course, you never leave the comfort of your own living room. The seat is in the same location relative to the pedals and steering wheel – just like in an F1 car, and it’s set up to plug into a variety of gaming systems.

If you have the extra cash lying around, you can pick up one of these bad boys for $1,300 (that’s the price when it’s on sale – you can also buy it at the regular price of $1,400). If you don’t, you’ll just have to live vicariously through Vettel.

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has finally released a supercharger package for the 08-10 Dodge Challenger, taking performance to 500-rwhp and 450 ft-lbs of torque on the 6.1L HEMI. That’s good enough for a 12.03 second quarter mile blast at 120-mph.

The supercharger upgrade is available for both the 5.7L and 6.1L HEMI engines and comes with a Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger, powdercoated black. An upgraded thermostat, fuel injectors and intake system are also included in the performance package.

Lingenfelter will also install the supercharger upgrade package for those interested, and it comes with Lingenfelter’s 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty.

When dealing with an authoritarian state that exercises substantial government control of the economy, you generally know whose rules you’re playing by – and everyone from automakers to tech companies are happy to capitulate to the demands of the Chinese government, with car companies establishing joint ventures with local automakers for the sake of being able to compete in the world’s largest auto market.

China is stipulating that around 30 percent of additional capacity (as agreed upon in existing contracts) will have to be set aside for the Chinese market and sold under separate, low-cost brands. According to an analyst quoted by the Financial Times, the motive is not so much profit as intellectual property. Chinese car makers are often denied access to the more advanced technologies when they embark on a joint venture process, and the report seems to suggest that auto makers will have to bend to the will of Chinese industry in order to keep getting market access.

CruzeHatch (1).jpg

With the Chevrolet Cobalt SS being a critical (if not commercial) success, General Motors has been pushing for an SS version of their new Chevrolet Cruze small car, and the program looks like it’s a go, with much of the work being done by their Australian Holden division.

While details are still preliminary, a more powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, sharper steering and an improved rear suspension seem to be in the cards, with engine choices ranging from anywhere between a 1.6L 180 horsepower turbo mill to a 2.0L 280 horsepower 4-cylinder.

Expect to see the car offered in hatchback form, to appeal to much of the world market. A sedan version is still up in the air – as are North American sales for that matter.

Donald Trump is set to join the illustrious list of Indy 500 Pace Car drivers when he slides behind the wheel of a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS at the quintessential American motorsports event.

The Camaro SS Pace Car, announced earlier this year, will be a convertible model, and that gives us extra incentive to tune in. We can’t wait to see how the Donald’s hair holds up at triple digit speeds.
