Cadillac to Get Third SUV; Buick Enclave Twin to Slot Between SRX and Escalade

Cadillac will get another SUV in its lineup, with a new three-row model set to slot in between the SRX and Escalade. The news comes via Jim Vurpillat, Cadillac’s global marketing boss and this isn’t the first we’ve heard of a Buick Enclave twin based on the company’s Lambda platform.

The decision to move ahead with this product is aided by the fact that when Cadillac introduced the new SRX it changed the vehicle considerably, shrinking it and thereby creating a space between it and the Escalade. And to reduce competition for the new SUV from within GM, the company has reportedly decided to axe the GMC Acadia, leaving Buick/GMC dealers with just the Enclave (the more popular of the two) to sell.

Pricing for the new model should be in the $50,000 to $60,000 range and the new Caddy is likely to use V6 engines. The SUV could get a three letter badge like the rest of the Cadillac range, although a report by Car & Driver suggests it could also be branded as a type of Escalade.

Don’t expect the new big Caddy any time soon, however, with the next-generation of GM’s Lambda platform not expected until 2015.

GM needs a small pickup. I would like to see one that resembles the Terrain. My 2001 S-10 Extreme is getting old and I don’t want a full size truck. Looks like a Nissan may be in my future.

Cadillac needs to bring back the Pick-up that it had first. I loved the Escalade Pick-up, and I see so many of them on the road that I don’t understand why they were discontinued. Why drop both Caddy & Chevy. Just drop one and continue with the other.
