The Chevy Volt and GM are all about reusing, re-purposing and recycling. That’s why they’re doing their part for Mother Earth and all her feathered friends by turning scrap battery covers into duck houses.
The Volt’s scrap battery covers would have been on there way to the landfill, but GM had other ideas for them. Working with teens for the Lasky Recreation Center in Detroit, the covers found new life as duck houses.
This is a great idea – instead of sitting in a dump for the next hundred years or so, the scraps are going to be used for something creative and eco-friendly. It’s a happy ending for GM, the landfills and home-owning ducks.
General Motors says that these homes “will provide a safe place for wood ducks and even screech owls to lay their eggs.” Do creative recycling ideas such as this one make you more likely to buy a Volt?
