Subaru V-P of North American operations Tom Doll believes that the 2012 Impreza can hit targets of 60,000 units a year, up from the current 40,000.
If it does, that will help boost Subaru’s overall volume in this country to some 300,000 units, from around 260,000 today.
Doll says the new model fills perceived gaps in the lineup, that previously prevented it from achieving such a sales volume. Thanks to being fitted with a version of the next generation Subaru Boxer engine, as well as being lighter, the company says the new car will also be more fuel efficient, rumored to deliver as much as 36 miles per gallon. A good move, considering that although quirky and fun, most Subarus haven’t exactly been champs in the fuel economy stakes.
