2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Recalled For Transmission Failure

Hyundai is recalling 6,169 Santa Fe’s because the transmission has been found to be defective. According to the National Highway Safety Administration, the transmission may cause “loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash,”. The right- side output gear and intermediate shaft on affected 2010 Santa Fe’s will be replaced by Hyundai dealers.

This issue has been linked to an earlier recall of 12,690 Kia Sorento’s experiencing the same issue. Driving the Santa Fe in this condition will lead to a whining noise and eventually excessive wear due to misalignment will damage the automatic transmission.

My 2010 Santa Fe Style Auto has been with my Hyundai dealer for almost six weeks now waiting for a new auto gearbox which is supposedly being specially built for me in Korea! (When engaging Drive, the car was jolting forward as if you’d been hit from behind). Prior to this experience, a service-bulletin mod had to be done to front drive shaft (inserting a nylon shim)to take up free-play causing loud clunking noise when engaging either reverse or drive. Naturally, my confidence in Hyundai has seriously been eroded.
