Originally rumored to only be offered with an 8-speed automatic, BMW has since confirmed the 2012 M5 will instead use a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission to help deliver super quick gearshifts. What BMW has yet to announce, however, is if the new M5 will also get a manual transmission option. Now it appears they don’t need to as the video below seems to confirm the existence of a traditional stick shift and third pedal.
Spotted testing in Southern California, the car certainly displays the jerkiness of a manual, while the squealing brakes you can hear are believed to be evidence of ceramic rotors.
When it does finally debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show this Fall, look for a twin-turbo V8 engine making more than 555-hp, as well as fuel saving technology like start-stop and regenerative braking.
