Honda Launches “Sounds of Civic,” Searches For Next Great Songwriter

Honda is looking for the next great songwriter, the one that can capture in lyrics the emotions of the human condition. Or at least someone to sing about the new Civic.

Yes, just as “Rocket 88” was the first great rock song, and just as Bob Dylan went electric at Newport, Honda is banking on Facebook as the stage for the Civic fan who can croon an original song, and win the chance to perform live in Los Angeles as part of the 2011 Honda Civic Tour. The “Sounds of Civic” tour can be found on Honda’s Facebook page, where contestants can submit songs, vote on other songs, listen to songs from established Youtube artists, and generally fawn over the new Civic.

“We’ve seen a high crossover of Civic fans and music lovers. And with the launch of the 2012 Honda Civic we saw a perfect opportunity to give our amazing fans a little bit of both,” said Steve Center, vice president of Honda America marketing. “We know our talented fans will show off their skills and submit some great Civic-inspired tunes onto our Facebook page.”

The first round of voting begins on June 6th, and the final votes will end on July 17th. The eight finalists will also receive $2,500 in music gear. The groupies will come separately, however.
