Readers of sport auto, the German magazine, sure favor Audi products. In their “Sportiest Cars Of 2011” category, the four rings claimed seven victories for S- and RS- branded models.
Yet Porsche and Mercedes are also claiming tops in the number of cars chosen: Porsche also lists seven podium victories for their cars, while Mercedes claims that the SLS is their victor in the Super Sport category. Oh, the drama! But sport auto’s annual poll is no small endeavor: 11,392 readers participated in this year’s poll, choosing 9-12 cars each among 25 categories diverse enough to rank a Renault Laguna V6 dCi coupe next to a bronze, 600-horsepower Hamann Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Audi took 40.1% of reader votes, primarily with the RS3 Sportback. The Audi TT-RS and TTS Coupe also placed in the top three, along with the Audi S3, the Audi A5 diesel and the Audi R8 Spyder among their respective categories.
No surprise there that their readers will root for the home team. But Audi, if you’re paying attention: capitalize on this good PR—and those strong, skyrocketing American sales figures—and maybe bring some RS cars here, bitte?
