Many watches take their inspiration from luxury cars. The newest one to take shape is Chopard’s “Engine One” for Only One charity watch, a one-off timepiece is designed to look like an engine block.
This limited edition timepiece, powered by a proprietary mechanical hand-wound tourbillon movement “motor” called the L.U.C Calibre 1TRM, is set in an oval-shaped, ultra-light titanium case. Functioning the same way an engine block does, the Engine One’s movement is mounted on silent blocks (held by three lever arms) that absorb shocks. No detail is left to chance – every inch of this watch brings out its luxurious inspiration. From the lugs screwed onto the case that resemble car wings, to its hand-sewn black alligator leather strap, wearing this watch is the next best thing to driving an exotic car. It features 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts a 60-hour power reserve, and the side of the case is engraved with “Only Watch 2011.”
