It all started with an article that appeared in Automobile Magazine, in which they tested the MT900 Photon, a street-legal track car. In the article, Mosler’s director of engineering J. Todd Wagner made a statement about a new model for 2012 called the Raptor. He said, “It’s going to blow your mind. It gets a massive injection of sex appeal. In fact, I designed the nose after the face of the most beautiful, exotic woman I’ve ever seen. The powerplant adds another level of exotic to the surface, featuring twin Garrett turbos as an integral part of the exterior design. With 100 more horses and weighing 500 pounds less [than the Photon], the Raptor is going to whip the Pagani Huayra. And with the turbos just inches from the atmosphere, it sounds like you’re driving a fighter jet.”
Since the article didn’t mention when this new car will be unveiled, we decided to call Mosler to find out more about this exciting new product. The truth turned out to be quite different.
Jill Wagner, a manager at Mosler Auto (who has no connection with J. Todd Wagner) told us that the article was done a long time ago, but is only coming to attention now. Todd Wagner is no longer working for the company, and the statements he made in that article are not true. Mosler is currently only producing the Photon model and no other model is currently in their pipeline.
So if you’ve been waiting for a new Mosler, you’ll have to wait longer still. For now, we are pretty sure you’ll be very content with the Photon, which is just about the most extreme road car you can get your hands on. We hope to one day do a full road-test to sample its magic for ourselves.
