The company responsible for manufacturing climate controls, driver controls, sensor systems, ECUs, and instrument panels for various German automakers has released a video previewing its newest technology, a BMW iDrive knob with an integrated touchpad.

Preh GmbH also supplies various components to Audi and Mercedes-Benz, but the Touchpad iDrive Controller will be sneaking its way onto upcoming BMW models by the end of 2013, or early 2014. The video gives us an interesting look at what the technology is capable of, implementing touch-sensitive controls that we’ve become accustomed to in this era of smartphone use. For example, drivers will be able to quickly flick and scroll through lists rather than having to continuously turn the knob.
