The 2012 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is playing host to the world premiere of the BMW Zagato Coupe, a stunning creation built by BMW and Milanese coachbuilder Zagato.
The one-off Zagato Coupe is undoubtedly a beauty, blending the DNA of two accomplished companies for a hand-crafted creation that will look right at home out at the banks of Lake Como.
But don’t let this unique Zagato Coupe fool you into thinking it’s a purpose-built show car. The Zagato Coupe is fully road-registered for use in Germany and has even undergone high-speed testing at the German automaker’s own test facility. The aerodynamically-optimized body is highlighted in the extensive photo gallery below and it appears that it was based on the Z4, though BMW wouldn’t confirm.
On all four corners of the Zagato Coupe are 19-inch, five-spoke wheels with a classy design while the exclusive exterior paint finish Rosso Vivace – a brilliant shade of red – clearly accents all the curves and lines of the body.
“Working with Zagato was a fantastic experience. It was extremely enriching for us to create something with people who share our understanding of good design and passion for cars,” explains Karim Habib, Head of Design BMW Automobiles. “And that is what makes the car so special – the open and constructive dialogue with Zagato, their experience, craftsmanship and incomparable sense for forms. All of these gifts are wrapped up in the BMW Zagato Coupé.”
