The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible is scheduled to be revealed at the LA Auto Show this year and the German automaker will kick off its launch with at least three special edition variants.

The launch of the 2013 Beetle Convertible will pay homage to the Beetle’s long history and recent trademark filings pegs models influenced by the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s Beetles. Those special edition models will sport decade-specific wheel designs, interior, paint shade, and whitewall rubber when appropriate.

Of course Volkswagen doesn’t want us to consider these Beetles to be “retro” models but rather “authentic recreations.” But in our definition, they’ll be pretty retro and should be on sale in both the American and European markets.
