The 2013 Audi A8 is getting a new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 and along with the engine downsize comes a cut in the cars base price, dropping from $5,500 from the 2012 A8 equipped with a 4.2-liter V8, to $73,095 for the updated 2013 model with the 3.0T before an $875 delivery charge.
While the new engine sacrifices two cylinders, it only loses about 40 hp, a seemingly worth while bargain when you consider the $5,500 less that you are paying for the car. The 3.0T will also be offered in the Audi A8L, with a starting price tag above $80,000 including delivery. Both base level cars will start with the same options as the 2012 models, including 18-way power front seats, a Bose surround-sound stereo system, adaptive air suspension and xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.
According to the EPA’s estimates, the 2013 A8 3.0T gets 18/28 mpg city/highway, which is the same as its V8-powered predecessor. An available start-stop system should be coming in the near future to help the car cut its fuel consumption rating as well.
