2013 GMC Terrain Does 0-60 in 6.7 Seconds

The GMC Terrain is getting a new engine option for 2013: a 3.6L V-6, that will propel the crossover from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds.

“Straight-line acceleration to 60 in under seven seconds is a great proof point for the 2013 Terrain, but the benefit this engine upgrade has for drivers goes much deeper,” said Essy Ipakchian, lead development engineer for the Terrain. “They’ll notice improved passing power with fewer downshifts, as well as stronger towing performance.”

Making 301 hp and 272 lb-ft, the V6 engine in the Terrain will offer acceleration as well as a 3,500-pound tow rating. Fuel economy is expected to be 17/24 mpg for front-drive models and 16/23 mpg when paired with Terrain’s all-wheel drive system.

In comparison, the Scion FR-S gets a 0-60 mph time of around 6 seconds, and is a car praised for its light weight, unlike the heavy crossover. The V6 engine will be offered as a $1500 stand-alone option for 2013 Terrain models.

Who cares if a crossover can do 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. What would have been more impressive is if they  said with the new enigine option the 2013 GMC Terrain now get over 40 MPG highway. But that will never happen! Keep the 0-60 ratings on the sports cars, not the family man sedan/soccer mom vans, AKA crossovers.

A low 8s, high 7s 0-60 time is plenty if passing acceleration is good.   Only being able to tow 3500lbs with that much power is a deal breaker for me.  Should be at least 5000lbs so you can tow larger things, like a car on a trailer.
