Ferrari is ponying up some money for a new investment into engine development for upcoming Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia models.

Ferrari is going to share its high-tech engine building skills with some of Fiat’s other brands, and is looking to develop a bi-turbo V6 engine capable of 450 hp, and a naturally-aspirated V8 that should make over 500 hp. This move is all part of a  €50 million ($62 million) investment made by Fiat into new engine technology.

The return of the Alfa Romeo 159 is rumored to have been delayed due to the lack of capable engines to put under the hood, which in part explains the investment. The new engines will be offered as less powerful versions as well, to focus on fuel economy and to also make them realistic for lower-end cars.

Expect the motors to make their way into the next generation Maserati Quattroporte, the Maserati SUV, and the next Alfa-Romeo flagship among others.
