The Kia Borrego was the Korean brands first attempt at a full-size SUV, and the company has announced that it is recalling 21,912 model year 2009 Borrego’s for a brake pedal mount which may break off in a collision, rendering the cars brakes useless.
The fiberglass pedal mount in question is actually designed to snap in a collision situation and is meant to protect the drivers leg from impact with a stiff pedal. The issue is that in some cases, the pedal will brake in low-speed collisions causing the vehicle to lose brakes, even though the SUV may still be in motion. Increased chances of a secondary collision is the main result of this situation.
Kia will notify affected owners. For more information you can contact the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
