The recently refreshed 2013 Volvo XC90 did not receive very distinct changes, but for the 2015 model year the SUV will be getting a fresh redesign, hinted at by these sketches released by the company.
The XC90 will be based on the companies new scalable platform architecture, a setup which will also carry the next generation S60, V70, XC60 and S80. For power, the car will utilize the new Volvo environmental architecture engine lineup that is made up of exclusively four-cylinder engines. Diesel, gasoline and a plug-in hybrid will be available, but whether or not they will all come to America is still unclear.
Look for the design to be based on the Volvo You concept, which debuted at the Frankfurt motor show in 2011. The new XC90 will likely change quite a bit from the original design, as most of Volvo’s new designs have taken a radical direction from the previous, generally regarded as boring, design.
Volvo is also considering bringing in a new small crossover called the XC30.
