While there’s plenty of wheel manufacturers out there that have no problems selling “carbon fiber” wheels, those are in actuality more like carbon fauxber than actual carbon fiber composite.
Australian-based Carbon Revolution however has created the world’s first full one-piece carbon fiber composite wheel dubbed the CR9. Without even getting into the technical reasons, manufacturing a one-piece wheel entirely made of carbon fiber is quite the challenge. But thanks to a highly focused group of engineers, scientists, and industrialists, Carbon Revolution hopes to share its newest product with the world.
The one-piece carbon fiber wheels weigh in at 40 to 50 percent lighter than an aluminum counterpart, while exceeding OEM standards when it comes to laboratory and track tests. Naturally with it being so lightweight, the vehicle’s acceleration, braking, ride, and handling have all been improved – not to mention fuel efficiency as a result.
Constructed from continuous fiber, the wheels are plenty strong thanks to advanced aerospace alloys that are combined with the lightweight carbon. Product testing is currently taking place all around the world, including on the infamous Nurburgring, Hockenheim, and Route 66 out in America.
The company hopes to have its product out on the market before the end of this year.
