2012 Audi Q5 Recalled for Sunroof Flaw: 13,172 Affected

Volkswagen is recalling 13,172 Audi Q5 crossovers built between June 21, 2011 and December 9, 2011 because the front panel sunroof can shatter in extremely cold temperatures.

The automaker was able to replicate the flaw in laboratory tests under -40 degrees fahrenheit (-40 C). Fewer incidents were reported during warmer weather, which would suggest that the flaw lies in a sensitivity to harsh cold. There haven’t been any injuries reported so far, but the breaking glass could lead to a distraction-related crash.

Audi will begin the recall August 7, and will replace the glass through dealerships at no cost to the owners. Anyone with questions or concerns related to the  defect can contact Volkswagen at (800) 822-8987 and reference recall number 60B2/L3.

Updates will also be available as the case progresses through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
