2013 Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake Previewed

Mercedes’ 2013 CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake is giving a roar through the internet in a new video shared by the automaker to give us a look ahead of the 2012 Paris Auto Show in September.

People who profess that a station wagon can’t be good looking have got to meet the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, or more specifically the AMG version, which oozes sex appeal inside and out. One of the best parts about the car is that you don’t need to choose the German luxury brand’s performance variant to get a gorgeous car, but you should do it anyway.

As we’ve reported before, the three-pointed star’s latest station wagon comes generously appointed in areas.  With features like a cherry-wood deck in the rear, the sumptuous styling you’ve come to expect from Mercedes interiors and a well executed outside that minimizes the car’s utilitarian shape, it’s hard not to feel a little bit upset that no version of this car will venture into the U.S. market.

Bearing Mercedes’ throaty 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood with 525 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, the Europeans are in for a treat behind this wheel. If that’s not enough, they will also be able to opt for a performance package that will boost those numbers to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft.

Handling for the AMG version will also improve thanks to the performance brand’s adaptive suspension dampening system, a custom front axle arrangement and electro-hydraulic steering all tailored for the high-end version.

Customers will also have three driving modes at their disposal through and AMG SpeedShift seven-speed automatic: sport, manual, and controlled efficiency. The last option will soften the throttle and use an engine start/stop system to improve fuel consumption.

It’s not surprising that the brand chose to reveal both cars now instead of dropping a curtain in Paris. Both will be available in showrooms this November, so waiting for the September show in France would have meant skipping chances to advertise and hype the new car.
