It may be unfortunate news to some, considering how convincing it was that an IS F Convertible model was in the works. But the Japanese automaker has confirmed that an IS-F Convertible is not on the current product plan, and that the car was simply acting as a test mule for another model. Of course, that model would be the next-generation IS due to bow next year.
Those that were present at the test session have noted that the mule featured aluminum lower control arms in the rear, which is similar to the new GS model. The current IS models incorporate steel lower control arms. It’s also no real secret that both the new GS and IS were developed together, and Karl Schlicht, Lexus’s former product planning chief, said earlier this year that “The new GS leads to the new IS.”
The next-generation IS will feature a stiffer bodyshell, multi-link front suspension, wider tracks, and a restyled exterior.
