Jaguar is releasing a series of videos centered around its upcoming F-Type sports car that make some bold assertions about its place-to-be in automotive history.

Understandably coy about its first specific sports car in more than 50 years, Jaguar design director Ian Callum says the company can “afford to be as fearless as [it wants] with this car. This is our car, and our time.”

Callum doesn’t stop there, though. He goes on to predict that the F-Type will be one of the most significant car of the decade. While that is a big statement, the F-Type just might be able to back it all up.

Despite making its global public debut during the Goodwood Festival of Speed only a few days ago, the car has yet to shed its camouflage wrapping.

Still, it’s hard not to be both curious and eager for the car to finally do so, especially considering the engine options. At its base, the car comes with a 380-hp 3.0-liter supercharged V6, but the F-Type R will offer a monstrous 5.0-litre V8 with 550 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque.

With numbers like that, Jaguar might be able to ferret customers away from Porsche by offering something fresh where competing lineups have remained almost static from a styling standpoint.
