Lexus has put the kibosh on rumors of special editions of the LFA to rest. The company has made it very clear that 500 of the supercars will be made, with no special models at the end of the run.

The internet has been alight over the past week, with theories about final commemorative LFA editions after a green LFA, and a blue LFA were spotted testing on the Nürburgring last week. According to Etienne Plas, senior manager of product communications for Lexus Europe, “These LFA units spotted at Nürburgring are one-off vehicles developed by the TMC technical division, and are currently being tested for technical purposes only.”

Plas says that, “we have no plans to produce and sell any new special edition of the LFA.”

We spoke to Lexus PR representative Allison Takahashi about the blue car, and according to her it is an R&D project.

Exactly what sort of R&D project remains to be seen. Is Lexus testing items for the upcoming LF-LC, or perhaps even the rumored LFA II.
