Porsche owners driving a 2011-12 Panamera Turbo, 2012 Panamera Turbo S or 2012 Cayenne Turbo should be advised: their car’s forced induction system might be faulty.

In total, 270 units are affected by a possible flaw in the turbocharger’s turbine wheel that could fracture because of a casting defect. If that happens, the cars will suffer noticeably decreased performance. Once the shaft is compromised, oil can be drawn into the into the exhaust system causing smoke, ultiamtely increasing the risk of a fire.

Last week the same defect was reported in Canada, where just like the U.S., the issue will be fixed free of charge to the owner through the brand’s dealer network. Porsche will notify owners of the need for service, though the brand can be contacted directly at (800) 767-7243 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
