Volkswagen of America is sponsoring the Discovery Channel’s 25th annual Shark Week and is providing a special shark cage as part of the deal.
The automaker teamed up with marine biologist and shark expert Luke Tipple to help design and build a special VW Beetle-shaped shark cage. How the cage was designed, built, and submerged will all be shown off to viewers in three, one-minute long segments that will air on Discovery Channel during Shark Week programming.
“We wanted the integration to be authentic and fit naturally with the Volkswagen brand, imprinting our signature style on Shark Week. The Beetle shark cage plays on the silhouettes of two of the most iconic images, the shark fin and the Volkswagen Beetle,” said Justin Osborne, the general manager of marketing communications for Volkswagen of America.
