While a Scion FR-S convertible was ruled out for the American market due to cost, Automotive News is now reporting that a drop-top Subaru BRZ will be available in 2014.

The Toyota GT86 was designed from the beginning to be a convertible according to lead engineer Tetsuya Tada, and will be offered with Subaru badges here in the States, and Toyota badges worldwide.

Expect the convertible to use the same 197 hp 2.0-liter boxer 4-cylinder engine, and to gain a little weight. To help keep the weight gain minimal, the BRZ might lose its back seats and be offered as conventional two seat roadster.
