All Jeep Cherokees (XJ) built since 1987 are unibody designs – they have never had a separate frame.

Unless it has solid axles under it, it won’t be a Cherokee in my eyes. They should build it so that the Grand Cherokee’s engine/trans/transfercase are backed by a Wrangler suspension in a Liberty sized unibody (well, maybe not so tall anyway), anything less will just be a trail rated Journey and a further insult to the Jeep name as the Patriot and Compass are.

I can’t imagine it will be able to live up to the name. Cherokee is a cult that is pretty devout, I doubt a uni-body design will suffice.
