Porsche 918 Spyder Captured in Video

News about the Ferrari-killing Porsche 918 Spyder hasn’t been scarce, but video footage has been and that’s left one thing lacking: exhaust notes.

A small clip of the car taking a hot corner on the Nurburgring offered a taste earlier this summer where the car’s 4.6-liter V8 gave a throaty roar. But that’s not the only song Porsche’s newest supercar can sing.

A total 795 hp delivered to the wheels between the V8 and electric motors lets the car hit 60 mph in less than three seconds and offers almost 626 lb-ft of torque at only 2,000 rpm.

With a promised 78 mpg maximum courtesy of its hybrid drivetrain, it would be reasonable to assume that this might be both the most powerful Porsche to date but also the least noisy.

That’s exactly what the latest footage shows. While the car can deliver harrowing howls at high rpms, its electric motors give a quiet hum as the car glides along at low speeds. Of course, the car probably isn’t in performance mode. Regardless, there’s something to be said for a car that can offer an inspiring roar when asked but knows the merit of only speaking when spoken to.
