Something of a media darling, the Porsche 918 Spyder is gathering attention practically without trying and the latest information is sure to fuel those flames further: a seven-minute, 14-second lap time around the Nurburgring.

That not only beats the car’s 7:22 target time, but puts the hybrid supercar in line with the Lexus LFA. Not only that, but the car is also faster than the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R.

Possibly more ticklish than that, it’s expected to be capable of achieving up to 78 mpg because it’s a hybrid. Of course, running in the mode necessary for high performance, the 78 mpg mark likely won’t be possible, but if there’s ever been a car to let you have your cake and eat it too, this is probably it.

Better still, Porsche has also now confirmed that the car will arrive with 784 hp.
