Volvo V40 Gets the R-Design Treatment

Volvo V40 Gets the R-Design Treatment

After yesterdays announcement of the C30 Polestar, today Volvo revealed another performance oriented model, this time of the V40, dubbed the V40 R-Design.

The R-Design package is appearance and performance, bumping up the regular V40 to become a performance machine. Power can come from any of the engines offered on the standard V40, ranging from a D2 diesel with 115 horsepower, all the way up to the T5 turbo that makes 254 horsepower.

In cooperation with the Volvo Polestar Black R race team, the chassis has recieved a host of upgrades, starting with a 10mm lower ride height than standard models. Springs and shocks have also been stiffened, along with the use of rear monotube dampers that have faster reaction time than the regular V40. Anti-roll bars are also added to the car to further enhance the stiff sports-car feel.

For looks, the R-Design V40 gets a silk-metal framed high-gloss grille, ironstone diffuser, silk-metal finished details and twin exhaust tailpipes. 17- or 18-inch “diamond-cut wheels” finish off the look, along with Rebel Blue livery, although the car is available with six other exterior colors.

An interactive dashboard is a major feature in the interior of the car, giving the driver the choice to customize its setup with three different configuration options, either elegance, eco or performance. The seats are comprised of a blend of black Nubuck textile and perforated leather, and come embroidered with R-Design logos. Other interior upgrades include a specially designed steering wheel, gear shifter, handbrake and sport pedals.
