Ford is recalling about 154,604 Fiesta vehicles manufactured from November 3, 2009 through September 21, 2012 for a flaw with the side curtain airbag system.

In the event of a side impact crash, the passenger side curtain airbag will not deploy unless a person is seated in the front passenger seat. This poses a risk to a rear passenger, as they will have no airbag to protect them, unless someone is seated in the front passenger seat.

Because of this defect, the owner’s guide contains false information, which means it also does not comply with federal safety standards.

Ford will begin the recall in the near future, and will re-program the airbag software free of charge so that the side curtains will deploy regardless of whether or not there is someone in the front passenger seat. For more info, you can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
