NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation reports receiving 50 complaints pertaining to a stuck throttle in model year 2000 through 2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles, and is now launching an investigation into the scope of the issue.
In some Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles equipped with a 3.0L V6 Duratec engine, the speed control cable can fail, which causes the throttle to stick at approximately 26 percent open. A preliminary investigation has been opened, looking into the matter.
If the condition is found to be widespread, an engineering analysis will follow. After that, a recall could occur.
