Maryland resident Selden Cooper has joined the ‘Million Miler’ club as his 1987 Volvo 240 has eclipsed 1,000,000 miles on the odometer.

The vehicle recently got its 200th oil change at Lehman Motors Volvo, a dealership that Cooper has been using for 25 years. And for a man that has driven his vehicle to 1,000,000 miles, it’s no surprise that Cooper drives 190 miles to Lehman Motors Volvo for his service after moving to Baltimore. Still, Cooper has no intentions of replacing his milestone Volvo and looks forward to having the vehicle hit the 2-million mark whether its him or his children behind the wheel.

“I never contemplated that I’d reach one million miles,” said Cooper. “I previously had a 1975 Volvo 164-E. When I traded it in, it had nearly 250,000 miles on it, which I thought was outstanding. Needless to say, after that experience, I was not going to get anything other than a Volvo.”

Cooper isn’t the record holder though for the highest-mileage Volvo. Irv Gordon is aiming to reach the 3-million mark in his 1966 Volvo P1800. Cooper met Gordon upon reaching his achievement of 1-million miles.
