Wild Ford Fusions Prove Sedans Don’t Have to be Boring: 2012 SEMA Show

The all-new Ford Fusion proves that sedans don’t have to be boring, and the American automaker took it up a notch with four custom Fusions at the 2012 SEMA Show.

First of the bunch is the Ford Fusion by Ice Nine Group, inspired by the Australian V8 Supercar Series. Combining serious road-race style with performance for the street, the 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine gets a bump in performance thanks to MCE’s cold air intake and exhaust, and improved turbo plumbing with an external blow-off valve to relieve the pressure. The vehicle was also outfitted with 19-inch wheels from Ford Racing Performance Parts while the exterior received a complete makeover with a BASF Refinish ‘Green Pearl’ paint job. Body modifications – like all the other Ford Fusions featured – came from 3dCarbon.

Next is the Tjin Edition Ford Fusion SE which seeks the performance balance between performance and luxury. Unique Fabrication and Vibrant teams up for an upgraded turbo kit with a larger front mount intercooler while a custom Magnaflow exhaust gives the Fusion a unique design in the rear. Pedders coilovers combined with ExoticAir cup suspension gives the Fusion a great stance while it sits on 21-inch iForged Concave custom wheels finished in black and brown. The exterior gets a DuPont Beige custom paint job with brown accents while the interior has been outfitted fully with Katzkin products.

3dCarbon also built a Fusion of its own, despite having its aero kit on all the other ones present. Additional performance on the Ford Fusion SE comes from an MRT Eco-Flow exhaust system, while Eibach springs gives it a lowered stance. Wheels were courtesy of Forgiato in a 20×8.5-inch setup on its Sedici model.

The last of the custom Fusion models was a Fusion Titanium Sport Touring by MRT Performance. Air Lift air suspension puts the Fusion on the show floor with the 20×9-inch Forgestar F14 wheels tucked inside the wheel wells. MRT Performance contributed with its own vented hood, tinted taillights, custom halo headlights, and accent lighting. Extra performance comes from an Alky methanol injection kit and an MRT exhaust system.

As a bonus, Ford brought out its NASCAR Fusion race car for the showgoers to enjoy.
