The 2013 Ford F-150 managed top marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), earning top scores in every category.
Ford’s popular truck line wasn’t alone in gathering top accolades from the IIHS during its latest round of full-size truck tests. The 2012 Honda Ridgeline and 2013 Toyota Tundra also racked up “good” ratings in each of the four categories tested. None of the vehicles were tested under the new “front small overlap” crash test which was introduced this year.
Other domestic trucks didn’t fare as well as the Ford with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and its GMC counterpart both scoring a “moderate” rating for rollover crashes and “average” in side and rear impact tests. Both did, however, earn “good” ratings for front-end collisions.
The 2013 Dodge Ram scored equally as poorly in rollover tests, but managed a “good” rating in both front and rear tests. It’s also still untested for side impact crashes.
