In its first month of sales, the Ford C-Max hybrid sold 3,182 units, outselling its largest competitor, the Prius V, by almost 400 units.

October marks the first full month of sales for the C-Max, a small hybrid vehicle which claims a 47 mpg combined rating. The C-Max hybrid helped Ford to have its best small car sales in October in 11 years. One in four C-Max vehicles sold went to buyers in California, a State known for its appreciation of electric cars and hybrids.

Ford data shows that 70 percent of C-Max hybrid buyers traded in a competitive vehicle, or bought the C-Max without trading in any vehicle.

The C-Max starts at $25,995.
