As LCD manufacturers continue to push the envelope on display technology thanks to tablets and smartphones, Japan Display has taken its technology and applied it to something automotive: instrument clusters.
Recently, luxury automakers such as Lexus and Mercedes-Benz have equipped their vehicles with digital LCD screens instead of the traditional gauge clusters we’ve become accustomed to over the past few decades. In addition, the instrument cluster has impressive contrast ratios for a display of its kind and boasts a 50 percent lower power consumption.
