Kia “Seriously Looking” at Launching a Sports Car: CEO

As Kia continues to enjoy continued growth, the Korean automaker’s CEO is looking ahead to the future and wants to launch a flagship sports car to continue pushing the brand forward.

Kia is “seriously looking” at production model based on the GT Concept (above), says company CEO Hyoung-Keun Lee. The GT isn’t the only direction this new sports car could head in, however, with Lee recently commenting that another sports car concept will bow at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

In the immediate future, Kia is looking forward to bringing its new Procee’d model to market with a more powerful 1.6-liter, turbocharged engine with 200 hp.

Performance won’t stop with this front-drive hot hatch says Lee, commenting that, “In my opinion, a sports car should be rear-wheel drive.”

Lee also said that both media and consumer response will be taken into consideration before the Korean automaker decides which concept to make into a reality, but that a decision will be made quickly once the next concept debuts.
