The Porsche 961, meant to take the fight to the Ferrari 458 Italia, is reportedly in the works according to brand CEO Matthias Muller.
This car will fill in the space between the cars like the 911 GT2 RS, and the brand’s newest halo car, the hybrid powered 918. The new car, for which the name is still not confirmed, is said to be mid-engine, and will borrow much of its technology from the 918 (shown above) such as a carbon-fiber bolstered plastic monocoque chassis.
The same 4.6-litre V8 engine found in the 918 is expected in this car, although it will forgo the hybrid setup, and should make around 570 hp. The sprint from 0-60 mph should come in about 3 seconds, looking to meet the standards set by Ferrari’s 458, and the McLaren MP4-12C.
It should cost somewhere around $250,000 when it hits the market.
